As Father’s Day approaches, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the role of fathers (or father figures) in our lives and the profound impact they have on our hearts and minds. This special day is not just about giving gifts; it’s about expressing our love and gratitude. One beautiful way to do this is by making personalized Father’s Day cards.
In a world dominated by digital communication, taking the time to create a homemade card can be a powerful gesture. It shows that you invested your time, effort, and creativity in expressing your feelings.
We've created these two Father's Day Cards to inspire you and guide you on how we created them.
We'll start with the blue one:
To make this card we used:
x1 A4 Sheet of Extra White linen 250gsm
x1 A4 Sheet of Black card 240gsm
x1 A4 Sheet of Navy Plain Card 240gsm
x1 Silhouette Cameo Cutting Machine (or any electronic cutting machine you prefer)
x1 roll of double-sided tape
x1 Pair of scissors
A Scoring Board
I started this card by looking for a nice Happy Father's Day Text online.
I found this image on FreePik created by hafijulbd825
I downloaded this image and then used the tracing tool on my Silhouette Cameo to turn it into a cutting file.
I removed the mustache and altered some of the areas I thought might be too thin once the lettering had been cut out. Then, I added a square box around the text.
I cut the top layer out in Navy Blue 240gsm.
I then used the 'bubble tool' to create a slightly larger box around the text and cut this larger box in the Black 240gsm card.
Once the top two layers were cut I creased my Extra White Linen 250gsm card to make it an A5 Card Blank. I lined up the x3 layers to check how it looked before I started adding any double sided tape.
Once I was happy with how the card was shaping up, I started adding double-sided tape to the reverse side of the Navy Blue card.
I stuck the Navy Blue card on top of the Black Card and then added tape to the reverse side of the black card before adhering it to my card blank.
I think if I remade this card, I would try adding some shimmer to the black card where the lettering shows through. I think this would add more intrigue with the card without making it too feminine, what do you think?
For the second card we used:
x1 A4 Sheet of Buff 260gsm
x1 A4 Sheet of Dark Green 240gsm
x1 A4 Sheet (or scrap piece) of Red Card
x1 Silhouette Cameo Cutting Machine (or any electronic cutting machine you prefer)
x1 roll of double-sided tape
x1 Pair of scissors
A Scoring Board
As above, I found a lovely text image before beginning my card.
This image I sourced from an Etsy seller called SVGHouse
I downloaded this image and then used the tracing tool on my Silhouette Cameo to turn it into a cutting file.
I right-clicked the traced image and used the option 'release clipping mask', which allowed me to remove some inner lines and move the star, so that I could cut it out of red card instead.
I also added a square box around the text.
I cut the top layer out in Dark Green 240gsm.
I then cut the Buff 240gsm card so that it would be the same size as our Large Square Card Blanks (280mm x 140mm) and creased it to make it a card blank.
The I organised the layers on top of the card blank to check everything looked okay.
Once I was happy I started adding double sided tape to the reverse side of the Dark Green card and Red Star.
