Whose feeling a little spooky?
As the leaves begin to fall and the nights grow longer, the excitement of Halloween is creeping into our neighborhoods. Trick-or-treating fills our streets with laughter and joy, as well as fostering a unique sense of community.

Why Trick-or-Treating Matters

As we dive into the Halloween spirit, it’s interesting to note how the UK’s celebration of this spooky season has evolved in recent years. Once a minor celebration, Halloween has exploded in popularity, becoming a time of creativity and festivity.

Halloween allows children to explore their creativity and interests in different ways, whether it's preparing and planning their costumes or honing their acting skills to play the part of a witch or werewolf. Kids need a creative outlet, and Halloween encourages children to explore aspects they might not normally have the opportunity to.

Trick-or-treating is more than just dressing up and collecting sweeties, though — for some young folk, it’s an opportunity to engage with their community. Every Halloween, children venture into their neighborhoods, knocking on doors and engaging with neighbors. This act of bravery is instrumental in teaching kids essential social skills like confidence and communication. When children learn to be confident with adults, they build relationships, create memories, and strengthen community bonds that last well beyond Halloween night.

You can also use Halloween as an opportunity to teach children about their neighborhood too, exploring cul-de-sacs and streets they may not normally go down, helping them grow their confidence and knowledge about where they live and how to get home.

To make Halloween magical, it takes a community, and taking part in it makes you a part of that community. So why not elevate this year's celebration with some really memorable Halloween inspired Treat Boxes!

Ghost and spiders

Let's get Started!

We used a cutting file from Creative Fabrica made by RisaRockslt. You can use this file by following this link: https://www.creativefabrica.co...

To start, I altered the folds on the box as I found the original folds a little too fiddly, and I knew I wanted to make enough of these boxes so that I could give them out to trick-or-treaters.

I used the point tool to drag the folds and turn them into rectangles.

Once I was happy with my alterations to the box, I then decided I wanted to make a spider to go along with the ghost.

I made a spider using Adobe Illustrator, I made sure the circle body of the spider was the same size as the ghost/front of the box, and then added legs.
I exported the spider from Adobe Illustrator and merged it with my ghost box page in Silhouette Studio, I then used the trace tool to create a cutting image for my silhouette.

Once I had created all my elements and was happy with the changes I made to the box, I had to select which card I wanted to cut it out on!
To make x2 Ghost Boxes and x2 Spider Boxes I Used:
x1 A4 Sheet of Black Plain Card 240gsm
x1 A4 Sheet of Extra White Hammered Card 250gsm
Double-Sided Tape
Cutting File from Creative Fabrica

Silhouette Cameo 4 Cutting Machine (You could use a Cricut, Brother or other type of cutting machine)

I set up my cutting file to cut x2 boxes and x2 images from x1 A4 sheet.
When built, the box measures H:49mm x L:53mm x W: 28mm

The settings I used for cutting the file on a Silhoutte Cameo 4 were:
Cardstock - Glitter
Blade - AutoBlade
Blade Depth - 9
Force - 33
Passes - 2
Speed - 3

SC3 cutting instructions2

Once everything had been cut I added double-sided tape (as shown below) to the box.
I added the ghost to the front of the box and then built the box and stuck it all together.

I then filled the box with sweets and stuck down the top flaps with 'Happy Halloween' stickers.
