Hi everyone, it's Lisa here. I have a tutorial to show you how to make a drinks coaster like the ones I shared on the Papermilldirect Facebook page the other day. They are very easy to make and because of the drying time between the steps, it's a perfect make for when you have other things to do but still want to get a bit crafty.

You can pretty much make these in any shape you like. The last ones I made were square but I've gone for a circular shape this time.

1. Print off and die cut your image on plain white card and set aside to dry. The shape you use should be 4 x 4 inches. Die cut 5 circles (all 4 x 4 inches) from plain white card.

If you are using a digital image, it is better to use a lighter coloured image as I've found that dark colours, like black went a bit green when I applied the mod podge. You don't need to use a digital image if you don't want to. A pretty patterned paper will work just as well.

2. Glue your plain white circles together and leave to dry. Use a medium/light layer of glue so that the card stays flat.

3, Once the 5 layers are completely dry, glue your top (patterned) layer to them and leave to dry.

4. Once your assembled coaster is completely dry, it's time to Mod Podge! I am using Matte Mod Podge. You will also need a sponge brush (or sponge roller like I've used) and a paint pallette or paper plate.

5. Load up your sponge brush or roller with the Mod Podge and apply a medium layer to the coaster. Set aside to dry. Repeat this step another two times. It will take around 20 mins for each layer to dry.

6. Add some cork to the underside of the coaster. I have used 1mm thick self adhesive cork which I got from my local hardware shop but you can also find cork sheets online.

And that's the coaster finished.

As Mod Podge is a water based adhesive and sealer, the coaster will not be completely waterproof. I recommend cleaning with a damp cloth - do not submerge in soapy dish water smile

Thank you what a great idea. I have been experimenting trying different ways of making coasters. I will definitely have another go now with your tutorial. I am also thinking sealing the edges and top with clear varnish. I will give it a try and get back to you!
