Here at Papermill Direct, we love to get our creative juices flowing, especially around the festive period when crafting is taken to a whole new level of fun and inspiration. So here, we wanted to share some inspiration by exploring how to make our Glitter Christmas Trees Card.

How to Make Your Christmas Cards Stand Out

If you get crafty with your Christmas cards, it can be difficult to come up with new ideas and various ways to make them stand out amongst your previous designs and others your recipients receive. However, at Papermill Direct, as well as our excellent card-making supplies, we’re full of fresh ideas! There are endless options for Christmas card design; in fact, the only limit is your imagination, which is exactly what we’re here to inspire.

Creating standout Christmas cards requires thoughtful creativity, so start by choosing a distinct colour palette: traditional reds and greens, frosty blues and silvers, or unconventional pinks and metallics. Once you have made your choice, most of the hard work is done. Well, apart from actually making the cards, that is!

When thinking about ways to make your cards unique, there are various factors to consider, for example:

  • Embrace mixed media. Incorporate various types of paper and card, as well as non-paper elements like ribbons, buttons, or pressed flowers.
  • Add dimension. With techniques such as paper-piecing or layering, you can literally make your cards stand out!
  • Keep Christmas in mind. Choose Christmas-themed elements, such as glitter card, which adds a bright, festive sparkle.
  • Consider your recipients. Use their favourite colours and include unique messages or fashion designs connected to shared memories.

Remember, genuine sentiment is the key to a standout Christmas card. However, keeping all these factors in mind is sure to give you the perfect card design for all your loved ones.

Pre-Glittered Card or Glittering Yourself?

As mentioned, one of the best ways to make your cards stand out this festive season is by using glitter. But should you go for a pre-glittered card or go all-out by glittering yourself? Well, for the purpose of today’s craft, we’re opting for pre-glittered card. It’s an intelligent choice for numerous reasons. With pre-glittered card stock, you achieve a professional, uniform look, and the pre-fixed glitter eliminates mess, saving cleanup time (and making crafting with children simple).

As well as this, the even distribution of glitter presents a higher-quality finish, boosting the card’s aesthetic appeal. This is perfect if, as well as sending to family and friends, you wish to sell your creations. If it looks better, it’ll sell for more money! So, when making our Glitter Christmas Trees Card today, make your festive season crafting smoother with pre-glittered card stock.

Making Your Glitter Christmas Tree Cards

So, are you ready to get stuck in with your Glitter Christmas Tree Cards? Tracy is here to give you a step-by-step guide:

For this card, I used the Bottle Brush Trees die set and a sentiment with a shadow die. You can look in your stash for something you like or use the same as me! I recommend this tree design, but it can be easily swapped for balloons to make it a birthday card; this basic design would work for any occasion.

For the base, I have used a charcoal pearl card (300gsm) cut to 20cm x 20cm. Score at 10cm and burnish with a bone folder.

Four colours of glitter card are used here; I have opted for red, green, gold and white for the festive feel. All colours are included in the Christmas Glitter Mixed Card Pack, although I replaced the gold in the pack with a non-shed champagne gold.

Once you’ve gathered your supplies, cut out all the die cuts.

Assemble die cuts and decide how you want to lay out the design. I chose not to use the baubles from the die cuts and just added a few stars.

Adhere everything to the card front, and that’s it done. Very easy and quick to make!

Optional step: Splatter with watered-down white gouache or acrylic paint for a snowfall effect.
