What is the best time to order your stationery?

(With Save the Dates - optional)

  • 10 months to go - order Save the Dates
  • 9 months to go - send Save the Dates
  • 5 months to go - order Main Invitations
  • 4 months to go - send Main invitations & order on the day stationery
  • 1 month after -  order/send Thank you cards

(Without Save the Dates - optional)

  • 7 months to go - order Main Invitations
  • 6 months to go - send Main Invitations
  • 4 months to go - order on the day stationery
  • 1 month after - order/send Thank you cards

The above timeline takes into account the processing time for orders. If you are ordering customised stationery online, or from a local small business, these organisations often require up to 4-6 weeks processing time. If you are using ready to write budget invitations however, these wouldn't normally require processing time. also, if you're as indecisive as me, then add a bit extra time on top of this guide!

How does the order process work?

Orders can be placed in two ways:

1. Through my Etsy Shop (www.etsy.com/shop/rachaelskraftbox). When you place your order you can either add your requirements in the Note to Seller section at the checkout, i will then get in touch via email to start the process. Because the service i provide is still in its' early stages, it's very personal at the moment.

2. I can also accommodate bespoke requests if you like the look of something on my shop but would a few things changed. The order process can start from a simple email (contact@rachaelskraftbox.com) where you can tell me exactly what you have in mind and we will work together. Once we have agreed on a style i will then send you a link and instructions of how to purchase your order.

Proofs, samples etc...

I am happy to send pdf proofs as many times as necessary before going ahead. As a current bride-to-be and perfectionist I understand the importance of getting your stationery right. At proof stage, check spelling, check spelling, check spelling! I will do this when producing your order, but please also make extra sure i haven't missed anything.

ALWAYS ORDER SAMPLES! Get a proper feel of the look and quality before placing a big order. Your stationery sets the tone of your big day, it is the first hint of what your wedding will be like so give your guests the best first impression you possibly can.

Tips

Stay organised with spreadsheets.

Compile your guest names and address way before you think you're going to need them. You'll be surprised how long it takes people to get them to you.

Over-order! Allow yourself around 10 spares for last minute guests and for spelling mistakes.. your friend Siobhan doesn't want to see that you had 3 attempts at spelling her name!

Most importantly- Have fun with it! For those of you like myself, who aren't following all the traditions strictly and are having a more relaxed, personal wedding, then don't be scared to think out the box with your stationery. There are no rules of how it should appear or be worded! As long as you nail the information and the content then you can be as bold, quirky and witty as you like! Pretend you are the guest and imagine what you'd like to see and read.
