How To Make A Pocket Fold Wedding Invitation

Getting married can be expensive, save money on wedding stationery by making your own.

Expert paper crafter Janet Young has created this step by step tutorial, showing you exactly how to make a pocket fold wedding invitation which will wow your wedding guests. It's not difficult to make your own wedding stationery, you just need plently of time and patience to get everything measured and printed precisely. We have card in an array of colours for you to match to your wedding theme and an extensive range of high quality white, ivory and cream card to use as a base for traditional invitations.

To make this pocket fold card cut a 13.5cm wide piece of card from the full length of A3 card.

Score the card at 7cm, 7,5cm, 21cm and 34.5cm.

The first and second fold create a little gusset at the top of the card, so that when your inserts go inside the card it still folds nicely.

Cut 2 pieces of purple card, or whatever colour you are using for your stationery, into 12.5cm square. These pieces are stuck inside on the square areas of the card.

On the turn up piece of card, which is going to form the pocket, measure 3cm from each corner and mark with a pencil. Lie your ruler across these 2 points and mark the centre point.

A piece of silver card has been cut to 12.00cm square.

On top of the silver card would then go the invitation wording printed on a piece of card 11.5cm square.

It is usual to print 2 sets of the wording onto an A4 piece of card and then using cutting marks cut to the right size.

The other details of the wedding can be printed onto card inserts that go into the pocket, for example details of local accomodation, the wedding list and the RSVP.

For the front of this pocket fold wedding invitation some small square pieces have been cut at 7.cm, 6.5cm and 6cm, with the image stamped and heat embossed on the smallest piece. We have a tutorial for heat embossing using embossing powder if you are new to heat embossing - How to heat emboss
