Yamy Treat Bags 1

This week our customer spotlight is on Lombe from Yamy Treat Bags. She designs and makes gorgeous loot bags, party hats and banners for any occasion. Check out below what Lombe has to say – from why she does what she does to her tips for anyone wanting to set up their own business.

My name is Lombe and I am a mother of a 10-year-old boy. I’m the founder of Yamy treat bags which was launched in 2016.

1. What was your inspiration for setting up Yamy Treat Bags?

The inspiration to Yamy Treat Bags came about when I was throwing my sons birthday. I am naturally a creative person which comes across in my products so the fact that I couldn’t source fun yet affordable items in the U.K. was extremely frustrating.  I then decided to do my research on the market and found a very tired non-saturated market range, I felt I had something different to offer which people buy into. This then led me to branch into party bags. The idea was to launch a business that provided unique yet affordable party bags and hats etc.

2. What has been Yamy Treat Bags biggest achievement so far?

That’s such a tough question but if I had to name a few it would be the opportunity to cater to parties around the globe. I’ve had my work in India, Singapore, Spain, France, USA and Canada. I’m in the works for a party in Dubai which I’m excited about. Another highlight would be working on cooperate events with some amazing styling companies. I also have some top secret collaborations this summer, that’s all I can share for now. Another highlight was having a sold-out summer in 2017 and turned down clients because it was impossible to accommodate all orders.

3. We absolutely love your designs they are so creative! What is your creative process?

I don’t think many people would believe that I am a big foodie and the bags are typically inspired by food lol. It’s a secret I don’t share much. I work extremely hard around the clock, a typical day starts with me waking up at 5 am, checking emails and processing payments. Once the mad rush of the school run is done I check my diary to plan my day then I begin to craft into the night.

4. What is your most popular design?

The most popular theme has been our beloved unicorns family, I sleep, eat, talk unicorns, it’s the theme that keeps giving I believe.

5. What is your favourite craft tool?

My favourite tool has to be my scissors. All my products are handmade, I do use the cricut air for the more intricate designs on certain occasions such as weddings and flowers. But if I’m honest my favourite tool to use are my hands. There’s just something beautiful about hand made products.

6. What’s a typical crafting session like for you?

I craft full time so a typical day is Bags, bags, bags and lots of bags. I’m constantly juggling balls, admin, orders, suppliers and motherhood activities with my son. You name it I do it single handily.

7. What is your favourite papermilldirect product and why?

My favourite papermilldirect product is their paper, I’ve tried countless brands of paper and found that papermilldirect offered the best quality and not to mention the brightest paper which perfectly fits with the type of products I offer to my clientele.

8. Do you have any advice for people wanting to start up their own business?

I often get asked this question, my advice would be, always do your research to find a gap in the market in which you’re interested in and take advantage of it. Make sure to make your work stand out from others, be unique.

9. What does the future hold for Yamy Treat Bags?

As my business continues to grow I eventually plan on employing more people to craft. I plan on launching more products too and hopefully branch into the high street.

I absolutely love the work of this young mother. It’s great to have someone that can think outside the box when it comes to kids parties. I have seen kids cry to make sure they go home with one of this young ladies bag not because of the goodies inside but just because the bags are so unique. Well done Lombe keep up the good work . Love love your work.
