Hello, it’s Angela here to share a step by step project with you.  This week the Design Team are working with 2 lovely new additions to the product range.  Hemp card and Hopsack card, these are both beautifully textured and very tactile, both are 255gsm and available in 3 shades: White, Ivory, and Rich Cream.

2 Tree Box Dsc08366

These cards are a welcome addition to the popular linen and hammered textures and are great for adding a touch of luxury to your designs.  These will be especially popular with stampers, inkers and wedding stationers, but today I’ve been testing how well they cut on my Cricut Explore to create some little gift boxes.  I’ve chosen a file set from My Scrap Chick to use as this includes files that can be used on most electronic cutters (see below for list) as well as a PDF version which means you can cut these out using scissors or a craft knife if you prefer.

3 Gingerbread Box Dsc08370

I started by cutting the box bases from Papermilldirect coloured cardstocks in Forest Green, Daffodil Yellow, and Buff.  (There are 24 different designs in the cut files, I’m working on a Christmas theme and have chosen a star, tree and gingerbread man).

I cut the box lids using Rich Cream Hemp for the Gingerbread Man, White Hopsack for the Star, and Ivory Hopsack for the tree.  For textured cards I like to cut on Cardstock+ setting, cutting twice by simply pressing the cut button again with the mat still loaded, this ensures I always get a nice crisp cut.

Assemble box bases and lids by folding on the score lines and using perma fix tape to adhere the tabs.  You can also use d/s tape and glue if you prefer.

Pop the lids on the boxes and you have simple gift boxes to pop your little treats or gifts inside.  You can of course add extra decorations, glitter glue etc. I’ve added a ribbon to the top so these boxes can be hung on the tree.  I carefully pierced 2 holes in the lid and threaded the ribbon through, securing on the underside of the lid.

Both these new textured cardstocks cut perfectly on my Cricut Explore and being 255gsm were a lovely weight for both scoring and holding its shape. I have tested both textures and all 3 colours,  next time I'll be testing them out with some stamping, but I know already they are going to be a firm favourite in my projects.
