Keep Calm and Craft On!

Hello it's Angela here with another great card making idea. I’ve been having a bit of a hectic week not least because it was my Daughters 18th Birthday on Saturday.  After sorting all the birthday makes I found myself suddenly realising that I needed to create a card for our PMD theme this week, which is based around crafting, and so inspiration was found in the phrase ‘Keep Calm and Craft On’ which so happened to be a little stamp I had picked up a while back……

To create my card I started by spraying and using a paintbrush to flick two different colours of the Ink in a bottle spray inks onto a sheet of watercolour paper from the PMD Luxury Artist Pad (which is on sale at 65% off).   I chose Paris Pink and Glorious Gold inks, the pink being very vibrant and the gold added the hint of sparkle.  I used a heat gun to speed up the drying and when dry I chose an area of the design to stamp the ‘Keep Calm’ sentiment using Black Archival ink.  When the black ink was dry I could see hints of the gold spray peeping through the black here and there and liked the effect, so I grabbed my little paintbrush and added extra gold spray by painting onto the crown and the two letter ‘A’s  (my initial :D).

When everything was dry I trimmed the sentiment panel down to approx. 2 ¼ “x 3 1/8” and matted onto a slightly larger piece of PMD black card using double sided tape.

I trimmed another piece of the ink sprayed watercolour paper down to approx. 5” x 7” carefully selecting the area I felt was the most interesting for the background.  I matted this panel onto a slightly larger piece of PMD Raspberry Pink card again using double sided tape.

The card base was created by simply scoring and folding an A4 sheet of PMD black card in half and then trimming down to approx. 5 ¾ “x 7 ¾” (to fit a C5 envelope) a length of wide bright pink sheer ribbon was wrapped around the bottom of the background panel and fixed securely with adhesive, a second smaller piece of ribbon was then tied in a knot to the right hand side and the ends angled with scissors.  Using double sided tape I stuck the background panel to the card base and the attached the sentiment panel using 3D foam pads to give height.

To finish I dabbed cosmic shimmer glue to stick on sequins in bright pink, silver and pale teal as I felt these worked well with the colour scheme.  A larger sequin topped with an adhesive pearl was used to highlight the knotted ribbon.

And so I created a little card that had the black, bright pink, and gold drama to go with my hectic week and a sentiment to reinforce the message ‘Keep Calm and Craft On’:D
